In the case studies, variation in the appearance of the healed smooth skin is the result of variable repigmentation that occurs with deep burns.
Case 1. Male, early 30’s. Propane gas tank explosion with deep 2nd and 3rd degrees burns of 83% body size. Patient discharged from hospital on postburn Day 27.
Case 2. Male, Age 32. Subject received 2nd and 3rd degree burns from a propane tank explosion, covering 40% of body size. Patient discharged from the hospital on postburn Day 15.
Case 3. Female toddler. A pot of boiling water overturned onto her head, neck and shoulders. Treatment with topical heparin in the doctor’s office and at home by her parents resulted in healing by Day 11.
Case 4. Male. Subject received deep 2nd and 3rd degree burns in a gasoline explosion. Only the right forearm and hand are shown.
Case 5. Female, age 6. Fire ignited child’s clothing as she stood with her back to an open fireplace. She received burns on her back, chest and arm. Heparin administration led to final healing by Day 16.
Case 6. Male in his 40’s. Patient was involved in a propane tank explosion and suffered deep 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his head, neck, upper forearms, and hands.
Case 7. Adult male. Injured in propane gas explosion; 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Treated topically and parentally. Day 1 and day 30.
